Artist of the Week: Kid Sister
Kid Sister has come out of her brother’s shadow and has stepped into the spotlight. Very literally the younger sister of J2K from DJ duo Flosstradamus, Melisa Young’s highly anticipated debut album ‘Ultraviolet’ was released last fall, mixing rap, hip-hop and electronic music into her own variety of party-time tunes.
Since first garnering attention from her single “Pro Nails” featuring Kanye West, Kid Sister has been invited to take part in some of the largest events in independent music, from Coachella to South by Southwest. Most recently, the Chicago native has been finishing up her U.S. tour and preparing to take the world by storm (she’s off to Australia in May). With the help of ‘Ultraviolet’, you too can get in on the fun!
“Hip-hop/club fusion — an old-school idea that this Kid gives the 21st-century treatment.”

“Kid Sister’s long-awaited debut is, first and foremost, an upbeat and futuristic club record. Influenced by the fast beats and electronic soul of Chicago house music, “Ultraviolet” owns a roll-up-your-sleeves form of empowerment, where respect is earned rather than awarded on sex appeal.”
– LA Times
“Young is an anti-diva in the diva-obsessed world of hip-hop and R&B, and she’s just made the dance-pop album of the year.”
– Chicago Tribune
